Eleanor praises Tahani, who credits their friendship with any progress she's made. Eleanor and Tahani's bond hasn't been as evident this season as it was in The Good Place Season 1, so this moment was a nice surprise.
So, why do it then? Why choose to be good, every day, if there is no guaranteed reward we can count on, now or in the afterlife? I argue that we choose to be good because of our bonds with other people and our innate desire to treat them with dignity. Simply put, we are not in this alone.
During her six month stint of goodness, she did good deeds, but she had no real connections with anyone. She seemed engaged with the environmental organization, but still surrounded herself with the toxic friends who fit so well into her old lifestyle.
Finally getting around to catching up on the newest season of NBC's The Good Place over the holidays but need a refresher? We've got you covered! After laying down the facts of the first season, we're back again with a season 2 rundown that gets you up-to-speed before finally starting the recently-released third season (which started this fall).
Although it might seem like just yesterday that Eleanor was saying "fork you" to everyone and wondering "what the bull shirt" was going on in the afterlife, Season 1 of The Good Place is already about to come to an end. Luckily, viewers will get that in the form of two back-to-back episodes on Thursday night for the double feature finale, but will there be a Season 2 of The Good Place? Creator and executive producer Michael Schur has a general idea of where he wants to take the series, should it get that Season 2 renewal, but there hasn't been an official word just yet. (Update: NBC has now officially renewed The Good Place for a second season that will consist of 13 episodes. Fork yes!)
Having big names like Ted Danson and Kristen Bell lead the cast of The Good Place would mean a less likely second season once upon a time. But these days, TV is kind of where it's at and even if you're making movies, it seems like there is always time to work on TV. Plus, Bell and Danson are TV veterans, who both got their big starts working on different (but highly successful) shows. As recent as 2016, Bell was still working on Showtime's House of Lies, so being part of a TV show while working on movies is obviously something she's capable of doing.
In the 18-49-year-old demographics, The Good Place has remained upwards of 3.5 million viewers per episode. Now, the series premiere had more than 8 million viewers in the same demographic, and though that number has gradually slid down, it's still high in terms of viewership for a new series. In an interview with Collider.com, The Good Place creator Michael Schur said that while he doesn't have Season 2 totally mapped out, he does have a good idea of where the show could go, if The Good Place is renewed for a second installment.
This article about Season 3 of the series The Good Place was originally published on February 8, 2019 and updated on June 12, 2021 following the release of the season on NBC. Read on for the original article, with some new changes to reflect the latest updates on this topic.
Yes! The announcement came in December 2018, in the middle of Season 3 airing. Unfortunately, after that, creator Mike Schur clarified that Season 4 would be the final season of The Good Place. He revealed he had always planned the series to run for four seasons in a follow-up statement, even with critical praise.
Eugene Cordero, who played a rather small role in the first season of Marvel Studios' Loki, will reportedly play a much bigger role in season 2 of the hit Disney Plus series. It seems as though Kang the Conqueror rising to prominence isn't the only substantial change this new timeline will be seeing.
Cordero played Casey, a rather affable employee of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) who endeared himself to viewers pretty much right away. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) encountered him early on, when he noticed the TVA pencil pusher was using the all-powerful Infinity Stones as paperweights. While the character himself may have been a one-off in the first season, it looks like he got a good enough reception from audiences to warrant a return in a more substantial way.
Deadline reports that Cordero will now serve as a series regular in season 2, which will certainly make plenty of fans happy as well as inspire some speculation as to how he'll fit in the story. The Filipino American actor certainly has a way of leaving his mark wherever he appears. But Loki isn't his only claim to fame. In fact, he's been enjoying a pretty steady stream of hits since even before this series began.
Many will remember Cordero as Pillboi, the equally chaotic friend to Manny Jacinto's Jason in The Good Place, where the 2 buddies stole the show every time they were together in flashbacks or otherwise. But others might have missed his appearance in the season 1 episode "Sanctuary" of The Mandalorian where he played one of the villagers who pleaded for Din Djarin's help in defending their small fishing town against raiders. As for something a bit meatier, he currently voices Ensign Rutherford on the hit animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.
That's not even including a plethora of other big projects like Kong: Skull Island and 2016's Ghostbusters, among an ever-growing list of more enviable roles going forward. Cordero is quickly becoming a well-sought-after name in Hollywood, and he's sure to add plenty more laughs when Loki finally returns for its 2nd season. As for what sort of role his character will have now, that's just one more exciting thing to find out.
Maybe he'll serve as a sort of sidekick for Loki while the trickster-turned-hero tries to make sense of everything that changed after the Loki season 1 finale. After all, it wouldn't be Loki without a healthy dose of chaos, and who better to introduce that element than Pillboi himself?
There really is no other show that keeps viewers on their toes quite like The Good Place. NBC's afterlife-set sitcom ended its second season with a massive cliffhanger earlier this year, but now showrunner Mike Schur is clearing up all the questions that fans have about where our not-great-but-not-terrible heroes ended things... and that includes the biggest question of all: Are Eleanor and Chidi really alive in The Good Place Season 2 finale? Mike Schur also dished on what Season 3 will look like after that twist ending.
The Good Place showrunner Mike Schur is clearing up all the questions fans had about the show's surprising Season 2 finale in a new interview with Rolling Stone. Of course, the biggest question is about whether or not we can trust what we are seeing in that episode. After proving that they actually have become better people throughout their time in the afterlife, Season 2 ends with hell-god Michael seemingly returning Eleanor and Chidi back to Earth and preventing their deaths, remarking that this would be their second chance at becoming good people. But... are Eleanor and Chidi really alive again or is this just another one of Michael's simulations? After all, the big Season 1 twist was that Michael had been tricking Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason into thinking they were in the Good Place when it was actually the Bad Place, and Season 2 saw Michael putting the four in countless more simulations.
So that's one mystery solved! The Good Place fans do not have to worry about Michael secretly tricking our hapless humans again with one of his simulations... at least not this time. But what does this mean for the show going forward? Mike Schur also talked about how Season 3 will look now that it is taking place on Earth instead of the zany, magical afterlife.
Mike Schur stated that the writing staff always made to to include at least one "weird magical thing" in every episode of the show for the first two seasons to full embrace the anything-goes realm of the afterlife, and he was worried that moving the main characters back to Earth might put an end to that element of the show. However, Schur teased that he has worked out a way to keep up the wackiness in an earthbound Season 3:
Hmmm, interesting. Mike Schur did not go into more details on the new season, so we will just have to keep waiting to see what he means by that. Schur also cleared up that quibble some fans had with Chidi speaking in English on Earth when he was originally stated to have spoken in French while alive. The showrunner said they did play with accents for Chidi, but finally decided to just have actor William Jackson Harper speak in his normal voice for fear that a linguistic change may be too confusing or throw off the characters' chemistry.
The third season of The Good Place was picked up by NBC part-way through the second season's run, and although a premiere date has not yet been officially announced for the new season, The Good Place Season 3 will likely begin airing towards the end of September.
In part two, Chidi, Eleanor, Tahani, and Jason all had to reach a conclusion about who was going to The Bad Place, now that everyone was accounted for and guilty of something bad since their arrival in The Good Place. At this time, Eleanor realized something and the biggest twist of the season was revealed. This wasn't The Good Place, the four of them were in The Bad Place. And, the secrets, bickering, plotting, and real Eleanor were all new ways of torture that were being tested. Michael isn't the sweet "Dad" figure we thought he was, he's actually an evil mastermind.
So, will Eleanor find Chidi on The Good Place? While this particular twist was a real humdinger, the show has sort of been shocking us with conclusions that have felt like cliffhangers all season. Many shows now use this formula to enhance our likelihood to watch the next episode when marathoning. But there's something particularly enticing about a network show that asks big questions using this format in a finale. Last Man On Earth similarly tantalizes its fans with questions of morality, human nature, and surprise endings. The Good Place's cliffhanger has definitely set us up for some shocking twists and turns next season. 781b155fdc
