J. Rieger & Co. emptied these used bourbon barrels and then sent them to us fresh. The bourbon whiskey they aged will lend familiar bourbon notes of vanilla, caramel and more to any beer, wine, cider or other beverage that you decide to age.
Hitting the market in Sep. 2022, Rieger's Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey is well balanced with a nose of savory spice and mint that contrasts delightfully with luscious flavors of oak and caramel on the palate. With a mash bill of 96 percent rye and 4 percent malted barley, this rye was placed into the cask six years ago and its age shows. Be sure to pick up your bottle soon as this whiskey is a limited-time-only release.
No Longer Limited to North America, Rye Whiskey Goes Global: Once considered a purely North American spirit, rye whiskey has gone global in recent years, with new producers popping up around the world.
A blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskey, light corn whiskey, and straight rye all aged at least 4 years, as well as a small amount of 15 year Oloroso Sherry from Jerez. Bottled at 92 proof, Rieger's Kansas City Whiskey is well-balanced, smooth, and slightly sweet.
J. Rieger & Co. is a distillery that was established in 1887. Long since gone, this brand was resurrected in 2010 by Ryan Maybee, partner at the Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange in Kansas City and Andy Rieger, great-great-great grandson of Jacob Rieger, the original founder. This is sourced whiskey from Indiana and consists of a corn & malt light whiskey and a straight rye, both aged for a minimum of 7 years. To this, 15 year-old oloroso sherry is added not exceeding 2.5% of the volume, a common occurrence in American whiskey in the 1800's, but had fallen out of favor after Prohibition. This is legally allowable under the generic "American whiskey" category.
The distillery made about 6,000 bottles of the whiskey. It is available beginning March 10 at the J. Rieger & Co. distillery and at select Missouri and Kansas retailers. Each bottle will sell for around $70.

This is legacy in a bottle. Our limited-edition Rock Chalk Straight Rye Whiskey represents two pillars of Midwestern history. When Dr. James Naismith brought basketball to Lawrence, our founder has already opened J. Rieger & Co thirty-five miles away. When Phog Allen gave rise to the KU basketball legacy, we were the largest mail-order whiskey house in the country. After 120 years, people still come to KU for the best in college basketball, and they come to us for the finest whiskey.

Deeply rooted in its Kansas City legacy, J. Rieger & Co. has grown into a robust brand with distribution in 25 states (and soon international distribution), sales in the top 8% of U.S. distilleries, and multiple spirit categories including vodka, gin, whiskeys, and Amaro.
Once hyped as being the largest mail-order whiskey house in the United States, J. Rieger & Co. was lost and erased during the dry days of Prohibition. But its incredible history and the resurrection of this brand in Kansas City is a story of the legacy of one family, the perseverance of an interested bartender and a lot of guts between them all.
Just shy of four years later, the success of resurrecting J. Rieger & Co. is felt across the city. The brand has taken off and rebranded Kansas City as being more than just a beer town. A whiskey distillation is currently being done five days a week to build an inventory that will be ready for sale four to six years from today. The primary focus is on growing the J. Rieger & Co. brand nationally. Their products are available in 19 states and they hope to have California added by April.
The J. Rieger & Co. product line includes Kansas City Whiskey, Premium Midwestern Vodka and Midwestern Dry Gin, developed in collaboration with former Tanqueray Master Distiller Tom Nichol. Rieger has also debuted innovative products like Left for Dead, a whiskey distilled from a beer wash, and Caffè Amaro, a bittersweet coffee liqueur.
Over a century later, every few years the revived J. Rieger & Co. releases a new Monogram whiskey made with the rare and unique flavors of the same nearly century-old Oloroso Sherry Botas used in the original Monogram Whiskey. The wait for the fifth installment in the Monogram series ends on July 14 with the release of Monogram Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
Get a first taste of the new whiskey during an intimate tasting at J. Rieger and Co. on July 14. A $60 ticket includes a welcome cocktail, Spanish-inspired small bites, and the opportunity to sample Monogram Whiskey offerings from 2017, 2019, and 2022.
In 2014, under the guidance of industry legend, Dave Pickerell, Ryan Maybee and Andy Rieger successfully relaunched the J. Rieger & Co. brand and got the booze flowing in KC once again. The plan was always to one day release a whiskey which was milled, distilled, aged and bottled in the distillery. Well, that day is almost upon us, Kansas City.
Six years after distilling the first whiskey in Kansas City in 95 years, Rieger & Co. will release a 6-year-old Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey that was milled, distilled, aged, and bottled at J. Rieger & Co. in the historic Electric Park district. The approximately 6,000 bottles available this season are rolling out in liquor retailers, bars and restaurants beginning Monday, Aug. 16.
